This is my Credit Motivation
My name is Rita, and I’m a journalist living in Kampala, Uganda. I’m the Executive Producer for Uganda’s biggest entertainment radio station, Galaxy FM 100.2. Since starting in 2018, I’ve been promoted three times.
My motivation to study began in a rural village in Western Uganda where I was raised. My village did not offer many support services, especially menstrual education and supplies. Personally experiencing this hardship gave me the dream to work for social impact organisations improving menstrual health for women and girls.
For that reason, I’m seeking funding for my MSc in Communications at Università della Svizzera italiana to research the crossroads of journalism and social impact/development, specifically for improving menstrual health. My experience in investigative journalism allows me to see the ‘why’ behind the systemic challenges affecting menstrual health, but not the ‘how’ to effecting social change. This interdisciplinary programme will help prepare me to make an impact in the media and development sectors.
The tuition fee for the programme is 8,000 CHF + about 18,000 CHF for living expenses. I have paid my first semester tuition of 4,000 CHF. I have raised another 2,000 CHF through passive income. I need a 20,000 CHF loan to cover remaining tuition, books, accommodation, and food.
I receive 225 CHF through passive income each month, so I can always make payments until finding employment after graduation. I will also seek part-time research work when I become eligible.
With your help, I will be the first woman with a Masters degree from my village. I am incredibly hard working and look forward to an exciting media and development career after my degree. Thank you for considering an investment in my future, as I seek to pay it forward to thousands of women and girls one day.
You are most welcome to reach out to me with any questions. I would be happy to connect and share more about my future goals and the impact I seek to make.
Sincerely,
Rita

- Plans after study
My first plan upon graduation is to seek employment with my partner in Geneva or New York, depending on the status of my green card. The average Humanitarian Media Manager position has a salary of CHF 95,000 in Geneva, or $80,000 in NYC. The final semester of my programme offers an internship in a Swiss media company, with many students hired by those companies after graduation. I'm open to working more generally in media in order to gain more experience.
My second plan is to return to Uganda, where a UN/humanitarian communications position offers a disposable income of CHF 20,000 a year, because the cost of living is incredibly low (CHF 200 a month).
Finally, I plan to increase my passive income sources online and in Uganda. In 2018, I inherited land in Western Uganda through my late mother, which the Government of Uganda has previously asked to purchase for drilling interests. Although I do not wish to or expect to sell the land, I could always do so if I needed to. Land in Uganda is very profitable market.
Thank you for considering an investment in my dream to impact women and girls. As we say in my village, Weebare munonga! (Thank you so much!)
